The aurora blade (Sword of light in AHB) is a recurring sword in the Dragon Quest series. When it first appeared, it was a powerful weapon that could cast Dazzle when used as tool in battle. Starting with Dragon Quest IX, it became an upgraded version of the cautery sword.
Characteristics[]
The aurora blade is a Western-style longsword with an unusual blade and hilt. Its blade appears to be made out of an unusual green metal with a gold fuller in the middle decorated with alternating crescent-moon designs and red gemstones. The center of the crossguard features a circular design with another red gemstone in the center and rays all around, reminiscent of a sun, and the quillons have gems on each side, as well. The hilt is blue and has a red gemstone on the pommel. In Heroes II, the sword is mostly made out of golden metal with green gems instead of red, and a red hilt.
When the aurora blade reappeared in IX and XI, it became an upgraded version of the cautery sword instead, but with a purple blade. Dragon Quest XI added a two-handed version of the aurora blade called the brilliant blade.
Appearances[]
Dragon Quest II[]
The aurora blade has an attack bonus of +70 (+65 in the NES version), can purchased in Burrowell for 16,000 gold, and sold for 12,000 gold. Originally, it could only be equipped by the Prince of Midenhall, but the Prince of Cannock can equip it as well in all remake versions of the game. It is the strongest non-cursed weapon the Prince of Cannock can equip in the game. When used as a tool in battle, it will cast Dazzle on enemies (all enemies in the NES version, only one group in all remakes).
Dragon Quest IX[]
The Aurora blade is only obtainable via alchemy. Deals 6~10 fire damage on all enemies when used as a tool in battle.
