Bot Success
I wrote a bot for this wiki. It's account is User:DragonQuestBot. It uses Java to automate editing tasks. I tried it out last night and aside from a few minor bugs, it worked really great. The first task I gave it was to go through all of the files on the wiki and give files without any licensing template Template:No license. So basically now we can view "what links here" for that template to see all the files that need to have a correct license assigned or be deleted.
I have applied for a bot flag from the wikia staff so that the bot can be hidden in the Special:RecentChanges page. I'm not sure how fast they respond to those. Probably Monday at the earliest I would think. It definitely swamped it last night, since the bot made like…
Treasure Map Calculators
I posted this in the treasure map article, but it's so awesome I wanted to post it here too. This calculator is awesome for figuring out treasure map grottos in DQIX.
http://www.woodus.com/den/games/dq9ds/dq9_grotto.html
I wanted to post the calculator in the wiki (or at least in my user pages) but wikia disallows forms for security reasons.
Printing Articles
I learned today that wikia includes a built in stylesheet for producing a printable format for every article. If you have ever printed a webpage, you know that most of the time it comes out really bad. There are huge navigation bars, things are spread over multiple pages, etc. Not so with wikia! Just by printing the page you will automatically make use of the printable format! You can check out what any page will look like by adding &printable=yes to any full page url.
Example: http://dragonquest.wikia.com/index.php?title=List_of_treasure_map_monster_ranks_in_Dragon_Quest_IX&printable=yes
For pages with spoilers, make sure you open the spoiler block before printing!

MKS hunting...
Finally got my Metal King Slime Grotto. It has Sluggy Betsy (sp?) and MKS, etc.
So I was in it, grinding my Ranger, and I went to a battle with Sluggy Betsy. I hate those! Luckly, it had 2 MKS with it. I killed one MKS, and the Sluggy Betsy almost killed my ranger. The Sluggy Betsy used Kazing (YES), and I defeated that MKS. Unfortunately, the other ran away. The Sluggy Betsy used Kazing again, and I set my Paladin to forbearance my ranger. I defeated the MKS, and the Sluggy Betsy, once again used Kazing. My Paladin used Kamikazee, but it totally failed, because Sluggy Betsy was being an idiot, and I already killed the MKS. The Ranger died, and the Sluggy Betsy kazinged the MKS. I gave up, and killed the Sluggy Betsy, which killed my MA. An…
Illuminating, ahaw haw haw hawww
This entry regards something that's probably post-completion for some, so I'ma spoiler tag the rest, yo. I finally found a moai minstrel (and let's just say it's... quite the find) and dispatched it with a Hot Lick as asked by that pink chick (Applaudia, apparently, AHAW HAW HAW), so now I can venture into the most extra of extra vocations, luminary. On a related note, looking at the moai minstrel's bestiary info states that it apparently has Kamikazee, so I'm glad I offed the first one I met to meet the mark (and also dispatched all later ones before they could pull that out, yikes).
It's a shame that IX's Tag Mode doesn't extend to Wi-Fi, because I'd like to help ya'll here since finding these guys was a spot hard (and by hard I mean time…
Dragon Ques Joker 2 & Dragon Quest IX
So, I looked up all of the enemies in the game, and I found out that Barabarus and Greynarl was suppose to be in the game! Many other enemies appeared in Joker 2 before IX, like Slime Stack. I bet they had to delete it so it would spoil anything. Joker 2 came out first. I haven't played it yet though...

Aaaaahahahahahaha!!!
Alright, first of all, this entry regards something in Dragon Quest IX that is bound to be spoilerific, so I'm going to leave a big space below so that any wandering eyes don't actually catch a glimpse of something they'd really rather not see.

Not Whacked yet
I gotta say, I really love what they did with the job system in IX. It's like some kinda spin on III's system along with the skill sets introduced in VIII, and none of that 'challenging fights' bologna like there is in VI and VII (probably the one thing about VI I DON'T look forward to).
Anyway, yeah, so far it's been sucking away my life like good games tend to do, which doesn't bode well for my other hobbies, so I might try and take a break from the game for a day or two (might). There have still been plenty of moments where luck was stupid, and I did get mauled by the boss of a treasure grotto (Equinox, weeee), so I'm definitely going to start changing vocations around and putting points where they'll be helpful to have (having just rec…
Dragon Quest
So I got Dragon Quest IX, and so far its awesome. Its different different then DQIV. I went to FYE, and they didn't had it, and in the last minute brought it in Gamestop. So frantic about buying in release date. I'm in the part with the Bowhole. So far, I have a Lv30 Minstel (Me), Lv29/28 Warrior, Lv26 Mage, and a LV 29 Martial Artist. I hadn't tried Tag Mode yet, but same. Anyone live in Boston Area?
First blog post.
Getting IX Early!
Got an email today stating that they would be shipping our grand prizes out early. I'm getting DQIX tomorrow! They did state that there is a review embargo in place, so I can't talk or share about it until Sunday when it gets formally released. Here are pics of the other prizes I got in the contest.
DQIX Trivia Contest Update
Well, the trivia contest has ended. The final question was sent on Friday and it was an easy one. It basically was:
Which of the following is NOT a slime creature you will fight in Dragon Quest IX?
a. She-slime b. King Slime c. Metal Slime d. Slimy Slime
A real toughie eh? The question a week before involved classes in DQIX, with the answer being 'Ninja' which is not an real class. I forgot the week 1 question at the moment.
I responded really fast this week, so I am hopeful that I will be one of the 25 grand prize winners. Even if I don't, I advanced to round 3 which means I should have a t-shirt and a soundtrack CD coming at some point. Woohoo! As for the details, the contest was definitely invite only and had only 200 total participa…
Dragon Quest IX Trivia Contest
For those of you who do not frequent Dragon's Den...
Nintendo of America's PR company is doing a trivia contest leading up to the release of DQ IX. It is by invite only and starts today at 1pm EST. I received a DQ IX poster in the mail this week along with instructions for the contest. Sounds like it should be a lot of fun. I will post updates as things progress, but for now it appears to be 3 rounds of trivia starting each Friday up until the release.
The rounds are elimination based with only the first 50% of participants with the correct answer advancing. Supposedly there are only 200 total participants, which means there is a good chance of making it to the final round. The prizes are a t-shirt, a DQ IX soundtrack CD, and the game …
Dragon Quest IX release date impressions
I'm excited to hear that IX is finally coming to North America when many thought that it might be DOA. I'm also a bit tentative about what kind of reception it will have. Nintendo indicated a year or so ago that they thought it was very marketable and could cause a resurgence in the series here in America. I certainly hope that's true, but I'm cautious to believe it will be.
The remakes of IV, V, and VI seems to be going mediocre at best. It seems like V was difficult to find in stores by Christmas of 2009, which was only about 10 months after it's release. Even now, it's hard to get on Amazon. Makes you wonder what sales were really like and whether SquareEnix has just given up on the series being a hot seller. I'm still thinking VI…
About Dragon Quest
I'm thinking about buying a Dragon Quest game (for DS or Advance), and there's one question I'd like to ask; is it all one big plot, or is each game set in a seperate world with a seperate plot?
Oh, the profanities
Yeah, I know, I've been doing squat lately. There are a plethora of things I could say, but excuses have rarely done anyone any good, so I'll just say this: all the luck-based bologna in getting Thunder Ward in Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker is quick to tax my nerves, yo.
Maybe I'll say a bit more. The variables involved are just too many, what with the scout and the monsters used and the difficulty in scouting scout monsters. Honestly, who thought of doing that? Cuz it ain't funny, especially when the monster in question can use encumbering moves and boosts its evasion, which applies to scouting. Lame. I miss simply chucking meat at monsters, but I guess they wanted to dissuade overtones of the glorious art of bribery.
If anyone knows an easier…
Holy smokes! A Dragon Quest III speedrun! And it's NOT TAS!
I haven't watched it yet, but it's here, yo.
Dragon Quest in 1080p
I'm sure most of you are aware that the Wii does not do HD. It does 480p max using a component cable. However, the dolphin emulator has been able to emulate what it would be like if the Wii could do HD. And now without further ado, Dragon Quest in 1080p!

Load it up and put it on full screen. It looks gorgeous. I wonder what it would look like if they actually put a lot of effort into the graphics...
New DQ and DQ III TAS Movies
Some cool guys have made some new TAS movies of DQ and DQ III. Both movies are much faster than their previous versions. If you don't know what a TAS is, it's basically playing a games using an emulator so you can slow the game way down to manipulate things more easily.
DQ Submission DQ III Submission
The DQ III one is really interesting as it uses the "Dream Ruby" glitch, well... it used to but now a way has been found to glitch using just the Numb status condition. This is done to glitch all sorts of memory addresses, including items and the return spell location list. Pretty wild stuff really. If you don't want to download the emulator and movie files, you can probably just wait a couple days and the .avi of both will be published on …
I got ANOTHER idea!!! Gasp!
Alright, the bit with Kiefer fell through since he learns VacuSlash instead of Vacuum, but that's in the past now. Some defense seeds and casino save exploiting along the way and I get through the nightmare that is Dharma and now can change classes.
So my idea? You don't gain job points from a fight if it isn't challenging enough, yeah? But if you kill everything you fight you'll keep getting EXP and leveling up, causing the challenge to not exist, even if the monsters are still tough. You can't rely on running into small encounters, so what do you do? Kill one of the monsters and then blast the others away. Poof (Expel) is the big thing, here, but it doesn't work as often as I'd like. Thankfully, it hardly costs a thing MP wise (actually, i…
Castlevania is teh hardorz.......
Wow, playing Order of Ecclesia is like smashing my face in with a brick, but I love it so much ;_;
Bah, I beat Judgement with all characters, surly I can topple this game.....
Nintendo to publish Dragon Quest IX in North America
Nintendo announced this at their 2010 Media Summit.
There's still no release date yet, but a official confirmation of a release is still a good thing, right?
Source: Joystiq.com
Here's an idea...
I recently had my copy of Dragon Quest VII returned to me, and whilst it was gone a thought occurred to me. Power-leveling in this game is a bad idea, seeing as how you won't be able to get stronger with any classes if the fights aren't challenging enough, right? At the same time, though, it can be tough to get by at low levels prior to reaching Dharma, especially if you have really, really bad luck. There's one character that's exempt from all this, though... Kiefer.
The guy eventually leaves you to knock boots with a Dejan chick, right? Well, what if you just let the hero, Maribel, and Gabo (if he's around) bite the big one for a while and just let Kiefer soak up the exp while the corpses remain as is? You'd still want to pace yourself, of …
Superboss Defeated
Well, I beat Edahs 'Sophix tonight, about 25 hours into Dragon Quest Swords. It took me about 20 attempts to finally beat him and basically complete the last element of the game. It was easily the most difficult thing I've ever done in a Dragon Quest game. Crazy hard!
Spoilers!
If you're not familiar with the game, basically there are 8 superbosses after completing the main storyline in the game. I guess it's kinda similar to the FFI remake for GBA that include the bonus dungeons where you could fight other major bosses from FF games. Anyway, these bosses are uber hard. I was level 99 with the strongest sword available and still routinely losing. In order to win you have to be great at blocking attacks because there are about 500 or s…
Can you say 'waggle'?
Geez, I'm already getting burned out of DQ Swords. I'm got about 20 hours so far. I can't believe how bad the controls are when trying to make accurate slashes in diagonal directions. I've been reading some forums on the game and some folks even suggest wearing a wrist brace to keep from moving your wrist too much. It's pretty outrageous. The other thing I can't believe is how difficult some of the 'bonus' bosses are at the end of the game. Some seriously extreme difficulty. Spend most of the time just healing yourself and trying to block crazy attack patterns in order to win. I hope not a whole lot of this stuff gets put into Dragon Quest X.
Pokeymanz, oh noes!
Yep, I'm playin' Pokemon, though I'm trying to lessen the amount of which I play. I'm also trying to concentrate on other things, to be honest, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna stop helping, I just might be a little more scarce than usual, though I suppose I can be scarce a lot.
Just a heads up if I don't seem to be around too much and you guys get wonderin'. Not that I'm saying you would, wonder, that is, because then I'd be flattering myself, and I'd be the the funkiest of funky ferrets if I went around trying to bait people into feelin' that way, yo. Right?
I should probably stop my blog entries a sentence or two (or three) short, eh? PantheonSasuke 03:11, January 30, 2010 (UTC)
Picked up Dragon Quest Swords
I picked up a copy of Dragon Quest Swords at Gamestop this week. It was only about $16. So far I like it, but I was surprised that you can only have 2 party members at one time. It's the first spinoff game I've ever owned.
First blog post!!!111one
Blogarific, yo
I figure since the option is here, I might as well use it.
Anyway, contributions from me have been slim. Hooked on DQVIII... again. I sure do seem to enjoy wasting time trying to kill metal slimes and their brethren.
