Caverns under Octagonia

The Caverns under Octagonia are a dungeon in Dragon Quest XI.

Story[]

Road to Yggdrasil[]

Entering the caverns, the party progresses to a web-filled room where Vince Vanquish is revealed to be behind the fighters' disappearance. The champion is not working alone, as a spider monster named Arachtagon has been providing a share of the fluid for him in exchange for a constant supply of new fighters to drain of their liquefied fighting essence. This extract is used to sustain Arachtagon, who was badly wounded by Hendrik many years ago. Vince, who has been assisting the monster in order to be able to continue to provide food for the kids of the orphanage, attempts to stop the party, but the fluid inside him once more causes him to collapse in pain, as it was never meant to be for human consuption and it has been slowly killing him, something the spider knew from the start it would happen. Ditching his so-called partner Arachtagon fights the party and Rab and is slain, while Jade, who let herself be caught on purpose to lead the party to the culprit, rescues the captives during the battle. Afterward Rab reassures a remorseful Vince, telling him he will convince the mayor to provide for the orphanage.
