War Cry is a recurring skill in the Dragon Quest series.

Description[]

Stuns or scares opponents, though the chance of success is somewhat low.

Appearances[]

Dragon Quest IV[]

Making its debut, it is used by Peepers, Bullions, Weartigers, Mandragores, Terrorflyers, Demonspawns, Canniboxes, Tigergram, and Barbatos, as well as the Well wishers and Scarewells for the remakes. Torneko can also use this ability as one of his random actions.

Dragon Quest V[]

Now fully usable by allies, it can be used by certain monster companions such as Moosifer, Battle pip, and Saber. It costs 0 MP to use, and is also used by Powie yowies, Eyevory tusk-tusks, and Pink elephants in battle against enemies.

Dragon Quest VI[]

Acting the same as in its last 2 appearances, it can be learned when by advancing to rank 5 of the Merchant vocation. It costs 0 MP to use once again, and is also used by Well wishers, Scarewells, Dreadful drackals, Yawnoceroses, Chompoceroses, Bigg, and Gallows giant in battle. It can also be used by recruited Damned rams at level 7, though only in the SNES version.

Dragon Quest VII[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances, it is learned by advancing to Rank 6 of the Martial Artist, Rank 2 of the Well wisher, and is a hybrid ability for the former and Troubadour. It costs 0 MP to use once again, and is also used by Damned wells and the Fire Spirit during his first fight, as well as Well Wishers and Scarewells once again. In the 3DS remake, it is learned by advancing to Rank 2 of the Troubadour.

Dragon Quest VIII[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned by investing 32 skill points into Yangus's Humanity skill tree, and costs 0 MP to use once again. It is also used by Mars rovers, Dark turkeys, Fowlfighters, Dark devildogs, Seasaurs, Blue fang, Dhoulmagus, Evil Sir Leopold, Lord of the Dragovians, Vermillion Dragon, and the Ultimate Dragon in battle.

Dragon Quest IX[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, this slightly risky ability can be learned by investing 4 points in Martial Artist's Focus Skill tree, and is also needed to complete a quest found at the entrance to Alltrades Abbey. It costs 0 MP to use once again, and is also used by Badboons, Beakons, Scarewolves, Apeckalypses, Mega moais, Grand Lizzier, Barbarus, and Orgodemir, as well as Seasaurs and Dhoulmagus once again.

Dragon Quest X[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned by investing 70 skill points into the Martial Artist's Focus skill tree and costs 3 MP to use just like in the Monsters series. It is also used by Belisha beakons, Stark ravens, Sintaurs, Tormentaurs, Summer wolves, Forest peckerels, Hellbound hair-raisers, Crimson glaives, Hyperboareans, Megaton champs, Phalaris bulls, Returner moas, Ghost berries, Demon Gaurad, Togrus Maximus, Tyrant Basagrande, Yarn, Magical Demon Chamur, Product N°12, Gezora, Abyssal Soldier, Hippoloco, Courageous Instep Beast, Bad General Togrus Maximus, and Pippi Ghost, as well as Apeckalypeses and Blue Fangs once again. It is also learned by recruited Great sabrecats when 3 skill points are invested into its Hell Killer skill tree. In the Offline version of the game, it is learned by the Hero in the Martial Artist vocation at level 35, in addition to investing 3 skill points into Mjoll's Powerful skill tree.

Dragon Quest XI[]

An enemy-only skill for the first time since its debut, it is used by Fright Bulbs, Black Dragons, Spitzfires, Raven Lunatics, Liege Lizards, Tiger Jackals, the Auroral Serpent, Lord Dragon, Mortamammoth and Hunkorvus; as well as Weartigers and Hellbound Hair-Raisers once again.

Dragon Warrior Monsters and Dragon Warrior Monsters 2[]

In Dragon Warrior Monsters and its sequel, the skill is obtained by recruiting or breeding for Fangslime, Drygon, Yeti, GulpBeast, Eyeball, EvilWell, and MerTiger. It costs 3 MP to use.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker and Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2/Joker 2 Professional[]

Dragon Quest Monsters Joker and Joker 2, as well as its Professional version, bring back War Cry through a small handful of skillsets.

In the original Joker, the skill can be found in the following skills:

Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road Series[]

Reappearing from Battle Road II onwards, it is one of Nokturnus's skills that deals 500 breath damage to one enemy, while potentially stunning it. In Battle Road Victory, it is also the blue button skill for Barbatos.

Dragon Quest Heroes and Dragon Quest Heroes II[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is used by Hellions, Barbatoses, Hacksauruses, and Gigantes in both games, with the Cyclops monster summoning Drackies and Teeny sanguinis to aid it during its boss fight in the first game. In the sequel, it is learned by Ruff at level 7 of his Claw Proficiency, costing 6 MP for the boy to use. In addition, it is one of Atlas's skills when facing off against the Drakulard, activated by pressing △ (X in the Nintendo Switch port), damaging any and all enemies near him, while countering Drakulard's Defend.

Dragon Quest Tact[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is already learned by Snowy sanguinis when they are recruited. It costs 14 MP to use, and is also used by Tiger Jackals once again in Stage 4 of Blindfolded Hammerhood's Battle Road.
