Holy water, formerly known as Fairy Water or Repellent, is an item in the Dragon Quest series that keeps weaker monsters away for a short time. It can also be used in battle, where it is guaranteed to deal small amounts of damage to monsters. In some titles, this has the hidden benefit of always hitting metal slimes and other monsters which would otherwise be difficult to hit; this doesn't work in all games however.
Appearances[]
Dragon Quest IV (DS)
When used outside of battle, it lowers the encounter rate of monsters depending on your party's average level and the average level of the monsters in the area (Each monster has a level value that can't be seen. The levels of the monsters you face in different combinations of encounters may result in an encounter when holy water would normally repel that monster when alone, but doesn't when in a group with other monsters). When used in battle, it can damage metal slimes for 1 point of damage.
Dragon Quest VIII
Dragon Quest IX[]
It is used to avoid random encounters on the ship obtained after the Bloomingdale story in Dragon Quest IX.
