The karstaway stone (formerly known as the Stone of Drought) is an optional unique item in Dragon Quest IV.

Appearances[]

Dragon Quest IV[]

Found on the beach in Dunplundrin, it is poorly visible during the day, with only a minor sparkle giving away its location; at night-time, however, when the tide is in, the stone's water-absorbing properties will create an indentation in the shallow waves.

The main usage of the stone is to drain away the water in the Cascade Cave, allowing access to the treasures below.

Dragon Quest X[]

The Karstaway stone appears once again in Version 3. A stone with water-absorbing properties found in a dried up salt lake on Dwachakka, the Karstaway stone is needed by Fura in order to reach the basement level of a tower on Eltona, as the door needed to enter it is located on a completely flooded floor. Proceding forward, the Hero and Fura eventually found the sacred Aspersorium needed by Miko Himea to make the sacred Yggdrasil flower bloom.
