Throughout the course of Dragon Warrior Monsters the player, as Terry, must journey from the kingdom of GreatTree to mystic worlds via Travelers' Gates (Travel Gates / Teleportals) in order to acquire monsters powerful enough to help him succeed in the Starry Night Tournament. The following is a list of these Travelers' Gates by name and gives the number of floors they have, the requirements for accessing them, and a description of the gate's contents.

Main Gates

The Travelers' Gates primarily visited throughout the normal course of the game. The monsters get progressively stronger with each gate, and most of the bosses encountered at the beginning will want to join Terry after being defeated. While most new gates open with wins at the Monster Arena, some gates and even rank battles cannot be accessed until a certain gate is completed. These three story-central gates are those of Beginning, Anger, and Reflection.

Gate of Beginning

Floors: 4

Requirements: Collect Slib from Pulio

Details: This is the first Travelers' Gate the player will go through in the game and as such houses the lowest level monsters that can be found. There are only four floors to this gate with all occupied by Slimes, Drackies, and Antguzzler. The boss of the gate is a Healer, likely based off of Healie from Dragon Quest IV, that will join the party after being defeated.

It should be noted that money will not be found on the ground in this gate. This was done to prevent players from skipping rank G, the only arena battles that require no payment to participate in. Due to this, if a coin is seen on the ground in this gate than it is undoubtedly a Tiny Medal.

Gate of Villager

Floors: 4

Requirements: Clear rank G

Details: After participating and winning in the arena for the first time, players will have access two new gates, a pattern that will essentially continue for the remainder of the game. The Gate of Villager is the same as Beginning when comparing size, but more items can be found lying about and the monsters are much stronger. The boss is the Dragon from the original Dragon Quest that was charged with the task of guarding the princess. It joins the party after being defeated. The main character can also speak to Laura, but, when he unsuccessfully tries to carry her out, she says that she prefers to wait for a hero to rescue her "properly".

Gate of Talisman

Floors: 5

Requirements: Clear rank G

Details: Compared to its partner gate, the Gate of Villager, the Gate of Talisman has considerably stronger monsters, especially if the player forgoes Villager and goes to Talisman first. The boss is the Golem from the original Dragon Quest that guards the entrance to a walled settlement. Like the Dragon, it will also want to join upon its defeat.

Hidden Gates

Gates that can essentially be accessed at any time, barring a few that require progression through the story before they can be accessed. The monsters within these gates are usually more powerful than those the player would normally encounter if they take the time to access them instead of venturing through the main gates and beating rank battles.

Bazaar Gate

Floors: 8

Requirements: Clear rank G; expendable monster with a fire skill

Details: Likely the first hidden gate players will find, accessed by giving the two men at a stove in the bazaar a monster with a fire skill to get their stove started. While accessible after clearing rank G, the monsters present in this gate are on par with those that would be encountered after clearing rank E. The boss is the Mad Knight from the original Dragon Quest that guarded Erdrick's armor in the ruined town of Hauksness. It will join the player after being defeated.
