Maldragora the Worldbreaker (The Worldmaker in his second form) is the primary antagonist in the second version of Dragon Quest X. Being the mastermind behind the rampages of his ally Nelgel and his underlings, Demon Marshal Zerudorado and Anlucia the Maluminary, Maldragora tried to conquer Astoltia and re-create it in his image by stealing the power of creation of Goddess Luciana, starting from the human continent of Rendacia.

Painter, sculpture, and creator, Maldragora was a being with the soul of an artist to his very core, whose actions were always striving for as much flare and drama as possible, sometimes even doing things in ways much more complicated than necessary, just to stir even more passionate emotions.

Etymology[]

"Daimou" is a term that aptly characterizes the central malevolent figure, as it's not surprising to find this shared trait among other notorious Dragon Quest antagonists like Zoma and Rhapthorne. This designation is well-suited for Maldragora, given his instructions to his co-conspirator Nelgel to annihilate Astoltia and his strategic deployment of additional monsters in a different region as a backup plan in case the Hero survived. Additionally, Maldragora harbors his own secretive agenda, exemplified by his ambition to craft a fresh iteration of Rendacia to replace the previous one.

Trivia[]

  • Maldragora is the third villain in the Dragon Quest series to merge/create a new world. The other two are Mortamor and Rhapthorne.
    • In addition, he is the fourth main villain to have a family member, the first being the Dragonlord, the second being Estark, and the third being Zoma.
  • In his humanoid form, Maldragora's back carapace resemble a stag beetle, while the carapace of his grandson Pepelogora resemble a rhino beetle. Taking inspiration from the real life rivalry between the two species of beetle, this is meant to symbolize the opposing ideologies of the grandfather and grandson, with the former being evil while the latter being good.
