Hero's riteof passage

The Hero figuring his way through Rite of Passage.

Rite of Passage is a dungeon in Dragon Quest V. A man-made grotto among a forest not too far from Gotha castle, this location has a magical field that prevents use of the evac spell.

History[]

Upon reaching his homeland, the kingdom of Gotha. alongside his wife, The Hero was reunited with Sancho, his old caretaker, who introduced them to the young man's uncle, Prince Albert, the younger brother of King Pankraz and then current king of Gotha after the latter had left in search of his kidnapped wife.

Feeling his nephew was the legitimate heir, Albert wanted to hand over the throne to the Hero immediately, but the scheaming Chancellor Jeeves, who had for all those years de facto governed the kingdom due to Albert's passiveness, insisted instead that the Hero would first complete the Rite of Passage, an ancient custom of the House of Gotha, and retrive the Royal Insignia stored within it as proof, despite knowing full well that the cave had become a nest of monsters in recent years.

Reaching the cave without his wife, who had decided to stay behind and rest in light of her recently discovered pregnancy, the Hero easily solved the riddles of the cave but upon retriving the Royal Insigna he was confronted by Robbin' Hood and his sidekick, two thugs hired by Chancellor Jeeves to further ensure that the hero would not return with his prize.

Nevertheless, the Hero defeated his assailants and returned to Gotha where, shortly after the birth of his two kids he was finally crowned king. Unfortunately Chancellor Jeeves would soon devise another scheme to get rid of the young man, enlisting the help of the Order of Zugzwang and causing the kidnapping of the new queen.

The Rite of Passage consist of three, not too difficult, riddles. Upon entering the cave, a stone slab inscribed with the oath of the House of Gotha is used as a hint for solving the first puzzle, which consist in rotating two pairs of eagle statues until they face each other.

The second, more tricky riddle, consist in opening a door without being swept away by a water current that it is unleashed upon opening the said gate, achievable by placing a heavy rock behind the the pressure plate in order to crete a blockade.

Lastly, the Royal Insigna can be found behind a narrow passga blocked by two eagle statues, which cant be easily moved aside by correctly pressing the right pressure plates on the floor.
