Alltrades Abbey, formerly Temple of Dharma and Dharma Temple (ダーマ神殿, Dharma Shinden), is a recurring location in the Dragon Quest series. It allows player characters to change their vocation.

Appearances[]

Dragon Quest III[]

For detail, see main article Alltrades Abbey

Any generic character that has reached at least level 20 may change their class to any other available class. The Sage class is generally unavailable unless the character is a Gadabout or in possession of a Words of Wisdom tome. This causes the character to drop back to level 1 and reduces all attributes by half, though any magic or skills they obtain are kept. The Hero may not change vocation since they already have one of their own.

Dragon Quest VI[]

For detail, see main article Alltrades Abbey

The temple has been placed under a seal by the Dread Fiend Murdaw. Once the temple has been unsealed, it is possible to change a character's class, which modifies that character's stats and allows them to learn additional skills and magic. Only a few classes are available at the start, but mastering certain combinations of classes will unlock more powerful classes. Two secret classes are only available by the use of special magic scrolls when in a character's personal inventory, and any character other than the Hero can only change to the "Hero" class by mastering all other nonsecret classes except for Armamentalist. The Hero can change to the "Hero" class by mastering at least 1 advanced vocation besides Armamentalist.

Dragon Quest VII[]

For detail, see main article Alltrades Abbey

Once the abbey has been cleansed of the High Priest perpertator, it is possible to change a character's vocation, which modifies that character's stats and allows them to learn additional skills and magic. Only a few vocations are available at the start, but mastering certain combinations will unlock more powerful ones. Monster vocations can be unlocked by obtaining a heart of that creature, with advanced monster classes also being unlockable in the same manner as the other advanced vocations.

Dragon Quest IX[]
