Biography[]

Dragon Quest IX[]

Zenus is the creator deity that originally created the Protectorate. However, over time, after witnessing the many horrors done by Humans, he lost faith in them, and attempted to eliminate them. When his daughter Celestria intervened on their behalf, transforming herself into the tree Yggdrasil in order to prove that mortals could change, as only the goodness and faith of mortals could restore her back to normal. As such, Zenus decided to give mortals another chance, and created the Celestrians so they could gather benevolessence, a mysterious essence created from mortal faith, gratitude and kindness, and by giving said benevolessence to Yggdrasil, Celestria would, in time, be restored. Since then, Zenus has waited in his realm, the Realm of the Almighty, for the day in which the Celestrians would be able to complete their task, upon which they would ascend to his realm as thanks through the Starflight Express.

Many years later, after the corrupted Corvus' accumulated an enormous quantity of negative emotions, he unleashed a powerful attack on Zenus' realm and the Observatory, and Zenus whereabouts became unknown.

However, thanks to their desciption in the monster encyclopedia or their pre-battle dialogue, it can be guessed that the attack from Corvus had fractured Zenus into ten corrupted monsters. These corrupt fractions of Zenus inhabit various grottoes and are:

After defeating each of them, they disappear to parts unknown and Zenus is not seen back on his throne.

Trivia[]

  • Zenus' name is an obvious reference to Zeus, the King of the Greek Gods, but with an "n" added to it.
  • In Dragon Quest X, a character by the name of Grand Zenus seems to take heavy inspiration from Zenus, as both are the creator deities of the Human race.
